I love watching book recommendations on TikTok, anyone else with me on this? If you haven't found the reading corner of TikTok, nicknamed BookTok, it might be time to hop on the bandwagon. My favourite type of content to watch is Books That I Recommend To Everyone and Books I Wish I Could Read For The First Time Again. But be forewarned, it may mean your To-Be-Read pile is growing. I thought it would be fun to put together my list of books I recommend on the regular. So get your reading list ready for these five-star reads!
1. Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I think this is one of my favourite books I have ever read. The writing is smart, it's a unique interview-style format that works perfectly, and the story is incredibly immersive. I promise you won't believe that Daisy Jones and The Six were not a real band. It's also filled with the kind of quotes that make you stop in your tracks and re-read them again. Amazon has picked up the rights to this one, so read it now before it becomes a television series.
2. The Wallflowers Series by Lisa Kleypas
If you loved Bridgerton on Netflix, this is going to be your jam. I don't think I have stopped talking about these books since I picked up the first one this summer. They are swoon-worthy historical romances with a charming thread of female friendship woven through them. In a time filled with uncertainty and challenges, we could all use a good comfort read and a happy ending, guaranteed.
3. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
It feels like everyone has already read this book, and there is a valid reason for that because it's so damn good. If you haven't read it, this is your sign. John Green nailed it with this story. Not only did I cry uncontrollably at one point, but it's also the kind of book that made me stop and appreciate the turn of phrase. And no, while good in its own right, the movie did not do it justice.
4. Christmas At Tiffany's by Karen Swan
Christmas At Tiffany's is a book that brought be pure joy. There are few books I have read more than once, but this is one of them. It follows a woman named Cassie as she reinvents herself post heartbreak with the help of her fantastic girlfriends. There were so many unexpected moments, I never knew what to anticipate next, and the romantic storyline is the perfection.
5. Wonder by R.J. Palacio
Although intended for a younger audience, I think everyone can enjoy this one. This story follows Auggie Pullman, the middle schooler who wants to fit in despite his physical differences from his peers. The story is told from multiple perspectives, conquering the themes of kindness, bullying, and empathy with grace. Wonder is an incredibly moving story that will pull on your heartstrings from the beginning.
6. A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
This book is for all my friends who are not big readers. A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions is what I call a one-sitting read and absolutely brilliant. It's short, smart, and to the point. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has other books as well, those of which I have read are equally glorious, but this one is my favourite. Please just read it if you haven't. Trust me.
Comment down below the book you find yourself ALWAYS recommending, and maybe I'll read that next.
Yours Literarily,
Lauren
