3 Books That Made Me Cry

Raise your hand if a book has ever made you cry? If that's you, I am one hundred percent with you. Books that make me feel strong emotions always stand out the most in my memory. If you're looking for something heartfelt, or maybe just your next excellent read, check out my list below. These are books filled with big emotions that I loved and will probably make you cry, so don't say I didn't warn you.

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green.

This one may seem obvious, but it made me cry hysterically. I read this book on an airplane, and that was an embarrassment inducing error on my part. The flight attendant had to stop by my seat and ask me if I was okay because I was sobbing (apparently loudly or obnoxiously enough to catch her attention). I managed to mumble out, this book... it's just so sad. Cue 18-year-old Lauren's embarrassment. If you are somehow unfamiliar with The Fault in our Stars, it is a love story about two teenagers battling cancer. The concept alone should have been a hint not to read it in public. It might just be one of the best books I have ever read. John Green is a brilliant writer, and this book showcases how incredibly talented he is. The other two books of his that I have read, Paper Towns and Looking for Alaska, have not come close to touching this one.

Wish You Were Here by Renee Carlino.

Wish You Were Here came out of nowhere and surprised me. I thought I was picking up a fluffy romance novel, and instead, I was hit with an emotional sucker punch. This powerful novel about love, self-discovery, and human connection deserves to be at the top of your To Be Read list. I properly cried in this one, and I distinctly remember my boyfriend looking over and laughing at me. This story will stick with you long after you put it down. I can remember the time and place from when I read it and when the tears started rolling. I did write a full review when I initially finished it, which I will link for you below:

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera.

Here lies another example of where I should have seen it coming. I loved this piece of young adult fiction. It is a coming of age, romance, futuristic story all wrapped into one emotionally powerful package. The story is about two young men, Rufus and Mateo, both of whom have received their phone call from the Death-Cast, informing them today is the day they are going to die. The story follows the two as they tie up loose ends, find each other, and decide how they will spend their final hours. This book has incredible wisdom, raises interesting philosophical questions, and does a wonderful representing the LGBTQI community. We need more literature like this, especially in the world of young adult fiction! I didn't want to put the book down. Despite the obviousness of the title, there was an incredible amount of suspense and sorrow that I didn't anticipate. It left me in tears, and sure that this is not a book I will forget. Full review linked below:

Writing this post has made me wish I could go back and read each of these books for the first time all over again. I loved and highly recommend all three of them. There have been a few others I have read that have also brought me to tears, but these three truly stand out from the rest. Comment below if you have read any of the above and whether they made you cry or not!

Yours Literarily,

Lauren.
