I fell in love with Kelly LeVeque and her book, Body Love. This is a non-fiction book about nutrition and making informed decisions about your body. It has completely changed the way I look at my plate and feel about my body. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to understand how what we eat interacts with our bodies, and is looking for a framework to use that is simple and effective.
I first discovered Kelly LeVeque on an episode of the Rise Podcast (Episode 40: The Science of Hunger and Body Love with Kelly LeVeque). This was at a time where I was feeling frustrated with my energy levels throughout the day and struggling with an upset stomach regularly. By the end of the episode, I was feeling inspired and more informed about my body than ever before. Kelly explained things in a way that was simple and clicked for me. That's when I went out and bought her book Body Love.
Body Love is filled with science-based information and recipes to help you make choices that are empowered and feel good. Before reading Kelly's book, I like to think I had a pretty good idea of what healthy and unhealthy choices were, I have my incredible nutritionist mother to thank for that, but I didn't know how to balance my blood sugar levels throughout the day and find a framework that was sustainable for me. That is what Kelly LeVeque's FAB Four structure did. The FAB Four are the components our body needs to feel full and shut off hunger hormones, which are protein, healthy fats, fiber, and greens. This has become the mental checklist I carry around with me to make informed decisions. When looking at a menu or my dinner plate, I pause and check I have them all. If not, it's easy to throw a handful of greens onto my plate or order avocado on my salad to get all of the FAB Four in.
The biggest reason I am a fan of Body Love is because of how it has impacted my energy levels. I struggled with the afternoon slump for way too long and I was feeling extremely frustrated that I wasn't showing up at my best anytime after 2 pm. Starting to implement the FAB Four and Body Love into my routine has created a noticeable difference.
My advice for anyone curious about Body Love is to start with the Rise Podcast episode or watch a few videos with Kelly LeVeque on Youtube. These will give you a sense of whether the FAB Four method is for you and if you're ready to take it a step further and hit the books. If you're like me and can get easily overwhelmed when trying to implement something new, take it one meal at a time. For the first two weeks, I only tried to make my first meal of the day FAB Four. Once I had breakfast under my belt I started focusing on lunch. I am still integrating and trialing new things, but that is part of the fun.
I hope this post may inspire some of you that are in the same position I was. Comment below if you have read Body Love too. I hope everyone has a FAB week!
Yours Literarily,
Lauren.
