The band Daisy Jones & The Six are described as magnetic, and I cannot think of a better word to describe this book than magnetic. I had a steady grin on my face as I turned page after page. Yes, this is a fiction book. I will be honest, with all of the hype surrounding it, I didn't realize that Daisy Jones & The Six were fictional characters. Well done to author Taylor Jenkins Reid, in my opinion, this book deserves all the hype.
What I thought would be the books biggest challenge, the interview format, turned out to be one of its greatest assets. Surprisingly, I loved the way it added depth and perspectives throughout the story. I don't believe you could have introduced or used as many characters and had it flow so flawlessly with any other format. I believe this technique added to the greater feel of the book and how influential the band Daisy Jones & The six were.
There are so many perfect moments that slowly build up throughout the story. The author did an excellent job of giving little hints in the background which alluded to greater moments later on, but you have to be paying attention. Every character and voice that is featured added to the feeling of electricity and enormity of Daisy Jones & The Six. The way in which these storylines develop, and eventually collide, was the magic that makes this book what it is. Perfectly orchestrated from beginning to end.
I loved that this book forced me to stop what I was doing and take the time to reread a line because of how beautiful it was. There were quotes that I couldn't help but write down. Below are two of my favorites from the book, while they both can stand on their own, in context, they shine even brighter:
"Some of us are chasing after our nightmares the way other people chase dreams."
"Loving somebody isn’t perfection and good times...love is forgiveness, patience and faith and every once and awhile a gut punch."
If you are an active member in the bookstagram community you have probably heard of Daisy Jones & The Six by now (Check out my page @literarilylauren). Perhaps that's what brought you here. Maybe you were like me, feeling as though everyone is currently reading this book. I am guilty of jumping on the popularity bandwagon. I was curious if it was worth the hype, but I am so glad that I did. It reads like a good time. It took me back to being 16 and starstruck, listening to my favorite band on repeat, and I felt like I got the backstage pass.
Yours Literarily,
Lauren.
