2019 was an excellent reading year! This post is all about the books that I adored and the ones that stood out from the other 46 that I read this year. I get so excited when I am talking about books that I love. Keep in mind that on the inside, I am jumping up and down right now as I write this. In no particular order, let me introduce you to my top four from 2019 (all of which I've given 5-stars).
The Friend Zone
Author: Abby Jimenez
Genre: Contemporary Romance
I do not have a full review for this book because I read it during my reading crunch, but I may reread it and do a full review then because I LOVED THIS BOOK. The Friend Zone had everything I look for in a romance novel and more. I love when contemporary romance authors write their female characters as strong, grounded, real women, and Jimenez did it excellently. The Friend Zone talks about things like periods, trauma, and fertility issues, which so many real women struggle with just like the characters in this book. I felt the couple's obstacles to being together were extremely legitimate and real. Also, their obstacles were not some of the more overused ones like a misunderstanding, or characters who refuse to admit their feelings. It was smart, witty, steamy, and I never wanted to put it down.
Daisy Jones & the Six
Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid
Genre: Historical Fiction

Daisy Jones and The Six is the fictional band you're going to wish was real. Taylor Jenkins Reid has a gift for writing incredibly compelling characters, and reading this book is like falling in love with your favorite band all over again. The story is told through overlapping interviews, both with and about the band. The genius of this is that it allowed for a symphony of storylines. There was a feeling when reading this book like you are apart of something bigger, almost as if you can feel the energy of the band. There were so many beautiful quotes and moments in the storyline, it is a brilliant novel and 100% deserves to be on your To Be Read List.
Girl, Stop Apologizing
Author: My girl Rachel Hollis
Genre: Non-fiction/Self-help

But won't lie to you in saying it's going to be easy, or comfortable, or fast. This is her honest and tactical guide to crushing it, EVERY SINGLE DAY. Rachel Hollis is an absolute powerhouse and I have a huge woman crush on her. If you want to be inspired, and if you want more for your life, this is the book for you.
It Ends With Us
Author: Colleen Hoover
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Link to my full review:https://www.literarilylauren.com/post/it-ends-with-us-review
It Ends With Us is not a fluffy, light-hearted style contemporary romance novel, but a story with grit. Not only are there beautiful romantic moments and a wonderful meet-cute, but it also takes on incredibly difficult topics with care. This is a book that will make you completely empathize with its characters and challenge you to appreciate multiple perspectives at once. It is jammed packed with emotion and important lessons. Colleen Hoover had me highlighting her phrases and talking out loud to her as if she was sitting there while I read. All of my fellow book-loving friends have given it five stars too, and there is a reason you guys! It Ends With Us is an exceptional read.
Honorable mention to the list below as well. These books were fantastic, so fantastic I couldn't decide on my fifth top book, which is why I only have four. I also gave all of these books a 5-star rating, so they are worth checking out too.
Wish You Were Here by Renee Carlino
The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery
Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren
If you're looking for book recommendations to start of 2020, I hope this list will help you. Let me know if you loved any of the same ones I did this year.
Yours Literarily,
Lauren.
