I want to start by stating the fact that I LOVE Mitch Albom. The first book of his that I read was The Time Keeper and it was nothing short of brilliant. He writes stories that are going wake up your subconscious and make you feel something. Typically I walk away after reading one of his books feeling like a better person, usually feeling a little bit wiser and a little more reflective. Tuesdays with Morrie was no exception. In fact, I think it might just be one of the most impactful books I have ever read. I'm considering picking it back up and starting it over because I don't think reading it once was enough absorb all of the goodness. It's that great.
Morrie is a wise, caring old man. You fall in love with him almost instantly. The fact that Morrie is a real person and not a fictional character makes him that much more attainable. He understands life, and death, better than most people probably ever will. Passing on his wisdom through teaching is Morrie's calling in life, and the purpose of this book. He is the kind of man that makes you want to be a better human being. It is what makes this book feel like you're holding a little piece of magic.
I can't help but wonder if many of Albom's other books are inspired by Morrie in ways. Zest for life, and search for meaning seem to be common themes in many of them. Tuesdays with Morrie certainly embodies those themes, as Morrie teaches his final class to you, the reader.
I have nothing left to say except, please read this book. I promise you wont regret it.
Yours Literarily,
Lauren.
